I had a conversation with @zuck talking about the breaking announcements in Meta AI, fighting in the UFC, metaverse, Ray-Ban Metas, future technologies, and more. What was really endearing was his thoughts on legacy and his advice to me on fatherhood. It was an incredible conversation, and an honor of a lifetime. I want to thank Mark and the entire @meta team for the opportunity. I had a few minutes before and after the recording to chat with Mark and I was amazed by how… chill he is. Super humble, friendly and down-to-earth. The full conversation is live on @metav3rse or @eluna.ai, as well as my YouTube. A$AP ROCKY’s new video for HELICOPTER has some of the craziest visuals you’ve ever seen. And no, it’s not AI. It’s 4D volumetric capture surrounded with 3D animation. It’s a technique called gaussian splatting. The production capture team, @evercoast, captured about 10 terabytes of raw data, rendering roughly 30 minutes of final splatted footage. That data was then brought into Houdini, where GSOPs (Gaussian Splatting Operators – @gsops.project) were used in combination with OTOY OctaneRender to create the final result. A message from the director of the music video @dan.streit who spent 5 months in post-production with the team: “I think it’s important that Rocky led with shutting down AI accusations because it’s too easy to call anything that’s remotely experimental or animated as AI nowadays. He and I both geek out over craft and want people to know that not only can you create great work without it, but audiences should empathize more with artists who slave away at their craft before assuming a computer made it all by itself.” 4D gaussian splatting is the future. Amazing work by this crew. Their brains need to be studied!!

Yeah. It’s getting bad. The average 18 year old in the United States today will spend 93% of the remaining free time in their life scrolling. That’s absurd. But I’ve noticed something. Not all social media experiences are the same. One person might spend 4 hours frying their brains with noise, while another might spend 4 hours being educated and inspired. They say you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. I think you are what you consume. Scroll wisely - and create more than you consume this year. Make sure you check out @dino_ambrosi’s TedX talk on YouTube. Must watch.

Meta has just released and open-sourced their latest Segment Anything models, SAM 3 and SAM 3D. Let’s talk about SAM 3, which I think presents a great opportunity for developers and entrepreneurs to create, experiment and uplevel media workflows. The model enables detecting, isolating, and tracking any object in an image or video with natural language, and turning those segments into dynamic, editable media. You can try it now at segment-anything.com, and it’s coming soon to Instagram Edits!

How do we know what’s real anymore? Last year - none of this was possible for me. Last night – I made this in a few hours. Some of the techniques used in this video were only reserved for the most seasoned Hollywood editors just a year ago. This is insane. I started creating content around how fast AI progress was happening at the beginning of the year not only because the progress was exciting – it is also clear that it can become really dangerous without people understanding what’s happening. Next year, real vs. AI-assisted will be completely indistinguishable. Not to mention, Unreal Engine 5 and beyond. Question everything you see and hear, especially going into a 2024 that will be a very consequential year geopolitically. This video went from idea to export in just 3 hours. I’ll break down the entire process including all of the tools I used and how in my free newsletter on Sunday (link in bio) Follow @rpnickson to stay updated and follow @metav3rse for the latest and greatest in emerging tech. #ai #artificialintelligence #tech
